Intermittent Issues: Matrix

What?

Joining a room on Matrix would sometimes fail.

When?

Between 3:43 PM CDT on Sunday, September 5th and 1:11 PM CDT on Wednesday, September 8th.

Why?

There is a dedicated worker on the Matrix server to handle room joins. This worker entered a failed state which caused some requests to timeout. Requests typically fall back to another worker, but in some cases they didn’t, causing joins to fail completely.
